Commenter “Bob” on Consumer Necessities
July 9th, 2008
I just got a comment on the iPhone/Rogers post I did two days ago. I’d like to take the time to write a blog post about it. I’m not replying to “Bob” in particular out of any desire to prove anything to HIM. I’m replying because his one line of pure ignorance provoked in me a desire to enlighten the masses, while at the same time entertain readers at the expense of a dumbass.
First off, I’d like to make clear how baffling I think internet users are, especially when they take the time to comment on things without adding anything of other than make other dumbasses snicker and propagate idiocy. This guy in particular–like his many colleagues–just got points in the “Look-at-me-I’m-Special-Club”. Such beauty to his simplicity and complete lack of understanding of what the original article was all about, so I quote:
If you can;t afford it you don;t need it, stop bitching
Side note: The apostrophe is to the RIGHT of the semicolon on most standard keyboards.
The issue at hand about Rogers overpricing its data packages isn’t about “what I can afford or can’t afford”. It isn’t what ANYone can afford or CAN’T afford. It’s about Rogers pulling unbalanced corporate manoeuvres in comparison to other parts of the world. Plain and simple.
I want to take a moment to deconstruct “Bob’s” marvellous comment:
- Just because someone can’t afford something doesn’t mean they don’t need it; many people starve to death in Africa because they NEED food–they just can’t afford it.
- Just because someone can’t afford something doesn’t meant they don’t WANT it; I want to build my own XEI house on a private island, I even have the preliminary designs for it–I certainly can’t afford that, but boy oh boy do I ever want it.
- Even if someone CAN afford something, it doesn’t mean they NEED it; there are countless people in the world that own more than one car–unless they can spontaneously clone themselves into two or more individuals like X-Factor’s Multiple Man, I’m pretty confident that one car is enough.
- The fact that I bitch about the iPhone, as well as over 58,000 consumers (from the time of this post), is to draw awareness to a topic–whether we bloggers/consumers are right or wrong about the topic is always up for debate.
- If you disagree with a topic online, the best approach to actually ADD VALUE to the “digital conversation” is to do something simple about the way you communicate your thoughts; adding VALUE being the simplest component. Example: Don’t just assume someone is broke or poor and then suggest that they don’t need it. Also, don’t bitch about someone’s bitching, even if it’s only with one line–that’s just ridiculous.
Thanks “Bob” for proving to us all why Rogers continues to get away with their inflated mobile plans and pricing models. More than anything though, thanks for inspiring me to write another blog post today.
