Michael Jackson Thriller with LEGO – Comparison Overlay

Michael Jackson Thriller – Lego Match Up from Nuno Teixeira on Vimeo.
With all the Michael Jackson hype over his passing last week, it’s hard to NOT run into MJ content here and there. I came across this LEGO Thriller video which was presumably created back in 2002 by Philipp and Miriam Lents.
I was tempted to see just how close it matched up. I spliced the LEGO remake with the original Thriller music video, and well, here it is for all to see! I was amazed at how close certain shots really are. The synchronized zombie dance is even in there–not perfect considering the LEGO legs don’t bend sideways! That considered, it’s amazing how they were able to still capture the essence of the dance.
Another critique I have is that I wish the camera work was a bit more dynamic with the close ups at least. That initial walk away from the theatre seems a bit redundant without that extra touch. If the source video quality was a little better I’d do that myself just to see what it looked like! These nitpicks aside, the attention to detail (like the zombie’s arm falling off) are quite commendable considering the amount of time something like this likely took to create. Congrats to Philipp and Miriam Lents!
