The League of Aquatic Heroes are a band of sea adventurers who are committed to keeping the oceans clear of hostilities. In a world where most heroes are busy protecting 1/3 of the Earth’s surface, someone has to be left in charge of the remaining 2/3rds! Team leader, Kraken, has collected the best team he can find: An eager coral anomaly, a loyal sea-robot, a mermaid swashbuckler, a mutant thrillseeker and a pseudo-god. Together they stand for what’s right and true all across the Seven Seas!
Strips Origin
League of Aquatic Heroes started off as a joke between Rui DaSilva, a good friend, and myself, Nuno Teixeira (NunoXEI). We designed the team with a group of friends for the MMO, City of Heroes. We laughed, we joked, we came up with personality traits and character histories as we went along. Then, during a road trip south of the Canadian border, on our way to GenCon Indy in 2008, Rui and I started to rattle of mouths off and building the framework for bringing this team together for paper and web.
The rest as they say is history. The first story arch was written, an artist, Nikola Temkov, was found after a rigorous search. We had to trust that the artwork could get the look-and-feel that we wanted–especially for the first arch, and the sails went up and we sailed away towards the horizon!
The possible goal for LOAH is to give new artists a chance to come aboard for new story arcs. There’s no real reason for this other than the fact that I, personally, would love to help new artists get their feet wet, or more experienced artists a chance to explore something new for a short burst of their time. The first while will be a test run for Rui and I and we’ll see where the winds take us!
