Submission Breakdowns

There are three types of submissions that are worth getting into here in order to clear up the process, requirements and permissions.

The first submission category is “Fan Art” (By-NC-Sh) which has a limited alternative license for pro artists (By-Sh); the second category is “Guest Strip One Shots” (By-NC-Sh) which are done without our editorial knowledge or request; while the third submission category is “Commissioned Guest Story Arc” (By-NC-ND) which are specifically commissioned by us as additional official LOAH content.

All submission categories use the Creative Commons License as a base for describing what’s allowed. If there are any questions or uncertainties, please contact us!

Fan Art

The LOAH characters are all open for fan art submission. Put simply, ANYONE can draw LOAH fan art and post it anywhere. We’d love to get a copy to feature on the site however, but this is not required. A link to the site however is, as stated below in more detail.

The characters are all considered By-Attribution, Non-Commercial, Share-Alike (By-NC-Sh). That means you are free to draw the characters and post them on the web, even print them

  • BUT the art must be attributed to the “League of Aquatic Heroes” website (http://www.aquaticleague.com)
  • AND no profit can be made off the fan art
  • AND be allowed to be distributed for free under the same CC-License (By-NC-Sh).

Limited CC-License for Fan Art

There is an alternative license for professional artists who do things like commissions for web fans or at conventions, etc. The CC-License for professional artists under these conditions is By-Attribution, Share-Alike (By-Sh). That means pro artists are allowed to take paid commissions of the LOAH characters

  • BUT the art must be attributed to the “League of Aquatic Heroes” website (http://www.aquaticleague.com)
  • AND the commission can be distributed freely under the CC-License mentioned above (By-NC-Sh)

Guest Strip One Shots

Webcomic creators, indie or otherwise, are allowed to create guest strips based on the characters and story lines that occur in the LOAH strips. They are even allowed to create their own. They can make a satire strip already built around satire, they can make a serious strip, they can make a silver age strip, bronze age, horror, grim and gritty, cartoon, animated, whatever! Creativity of all forms and themes are welcome.

The LOAH strip and content is considered By-Attribution, Non-Commercial, Share-Alike (By-NC-Sh). This means you are free to create a strip and post it anywhere on the web, even print them

  • BUT the guest strip must be attributed to the “League of Aquatic Heroes” website (http://www.aquaticleague.com)
  • AND no profit can be made off the guest strip
  • AND be allowed to be distributed for free under the same CC-License (By-NC-Sh).

Commissioned Guest Story Arc

The last submission category is one that is editorially guided by us. A couple guidelines must be followed before anyone is considered for paid commissioned strips. Contact us with the following info. ALL info must be complete or no further discussions will be had concerning the opportunity.

  • Full Name (any web alias or pseudonyms also helpful)
  • Website with sample art work, preferably sequential, but not required
  • Going Rate for half-page standard sequential; this includes layout, pencils and ink
  • Sample Concept Art for the six original LOAH members: Kraken, Boston Crab, Blowfish, Swordfish, Sea Squall and Orca

The completed commissioned story arc strips will be in official LOAH cannon history. They will be written by Nuno Teixeira, Rui DaSilva, or co-written by both. We are not currently looking for guest writers–but you never know! The final work is considered By-Attribution, Non-Commercial, Non-Derivitive (By-NC-ND). This means you can repost the strip anywhere you like as long as you don’t profit or alter it in any way

  • BUT the strip must be attributed to the “League of Aquatic Heroes” website (http://www.aquaticleague.com)
  • AND no profit can be made off the guest strip
  • AND the strip can not be altered from it’s original form
