About NunoXEI

INTRODUCTION
Hey there! My name is Nuno Teixeira and I’ve come to be known as “NunoXEI” online and in some social circles. I finished at the University of Waterloo with an Honours in Fine Arts, mixed media specialization and a Minor in English. I then went off to Conestoga College and finished the Web Design Certificate Program.
I’m glad you stopped by my blog; hopefully something entertained you enough for you to come back! For the lowdown about me, I’m a guy who seems to be infinitely intrigued about web media in all its forms. Each new web tool opens up exciting new possibilities and ideas, so I tend to jump on them and see what comes of it.
That said, you’ll find out very quickly that I am part of many communities and services; I play around with webcam video, mobile video and standard video; I blog and write, whether they’re rants, comic reviews, quirky cultural stuff or helpful technical discoveries; I share my art and projects I’m working on like comics, gaming magazines or books.
Content on this blog focuses on whatever my fractured and sporadic mind finds amusing at the time and I just roll with it.
PAST PROJECTS

There are a number of projects and communities some may remember my seeing my username at! Here’s a list:
ECORE Central
I created and ran a support website for a gaming community focusing on the M&M Superlink License released by Green Ronin Publishing for their Mutants & Masterminds RPG. ECORE Central was quite successful, going through multiple web framework mutations (phpNuke, Joombla, Mambo, Moveable Type, WordPress) with unique content and news supporting the “Superlinkers” before it finally had to come to an end due to time demands.
The Wanderers Guild
I managed the Wanderer’s Guild website community, founded and created by artist Andy Hopp, and site for a few years and met a bunch of great writers, artists, publishers and editors during my time. I became the d20 game machanics guru for the group. Relentless phpBB forum virus attacks eventually took out the site’s forum a second time around and much great content was lost regretably. I hope to one day see if this can get recharged when things in my life slow down.
Webtertainment.tv
I was the co-founder of Webtertainment.tv, a video blog troupe dedicated to bringing informational podcasts (The Lowdown) and comedy acts (One Minute Show) to the web in the days of YouTube’s infancy. Due to lack of money and partnership disagreements, those doors closed leaving me with a 20k debt I had to climb out of before tackling it again (which I will!) at a future date.
Stray Dog XEI and ComiXtrips
While re-discovering myself and my new direction after Webtertainemnt.tv I started traveling and did a short video blog (Stray Dog XEI) which is now party the inspiration for the new Lowdowns that you can find on this site. I also started playing with a comic-centric video podcast (ComiXtrips) that would feature comic news, reviews and webcomic features which is only now starting to crop back up in a new quicker format using 12seconds.tv!
Republic Domain and Tough Guys
I started a webcomic called Republic Domain which you can find on this blog now as well as co-created another short-lived webcomic called Tough Guys with ex-webtertainment buddy, Zac Marshall. Republic Domain may still have some life depending on redesign directions (drawn rather than using static images). Tough Guys on the otherhand might be over as it’s has been in re-design hell since the beginning of 2008 going through 4 different character designs since.
CURRENT PROJECTS
The Green Rocket
I co-founded TheGreenRocket.com with Nicole McCallum in mid-2008, a site focused on featuring green topics, news and videos online, interviewing inspirational people, and releasing unique articles. The ambition with this project is still being developed in the background by Nicole (NikkiJade online) and we hope to see it take off in a couple new directions based on funding by the end of 2009. The Green Rocket has received funding from the Kitchener-Waterloo city council to develop a site to organize local green initiatives and organizations which will be launched October 2010.
Rewind Awesome
I finally put this sub-blog together because I come across news, videos, art, etc that take me back to moments in my past that I recall being awesome. For the most part it’s really just a handful of properties from the late 80s and early 90s. Rewind Awesome covers things like Thundercats, Mario Bros, Darkwing Duck, LEGO and a few other random bits of awesome.
Mr. Brain Jar
Coming up with ideas can be hard sometimes–and sometimes coming up with ideas is so easy it’s hard to have time for developing anything past the concept stage. The Mr. Brain Jar blog focuses on being a place for writers, artists and any creatives or innovators out there that need a bit of a brain boost. It has video snippets of authors talking about hte process, highlights random generators that can help provoke ideas, and lists of exercises to get a mind started.
The World of Hellmouth
I’ve been developing a fictional world that mixes horror, fantasy, steampunk and comicbook concepts which is currently being worked into two separate projects: Raven Nevermore, a comic focusing on Corvan Moore’s journey to take out an underground gambling ring only to discover that something inside him might be the only thing that keeps him together, or tears him apart; the second project is the World of Hellmouth Anthology Volume 1, which invites other authors to tell short stories focused on the lore and history of Hellmouth. A third project is still in early stages but focuses on detailing a couple important fiends in the world and their back story developed under the M&M Superlink license. This world is also the backdrop of a series of comic strips called The Beholder Series, which are done for KW’s Blueprint Magazine. You can find out more at the XEI Books blog.
Super Samurai Magazine
Since ECORE Central came to an end, my mind still couldn’t resist the temptation of returning to the Superlink ins ome way or form. The answer was to re-launch a fanzine done in 2004 or so with Atomic Think Tank buddy Bob Bretz. The idea was to finally just take new Superlink support content to magazine form and Super Samurai was born again. This is released in PDF form on DriveThruStuff.com with possible print copies coming later. The hope is to get 6 issues out over the next year once it launches!
The League of Aquatic Super Heroes
League of Aquatic Heroes started off as a joke between Rui DaSilva, a good friend, and myself, Nuno Teixeira. The possible goal for LOAH is to give new artists a chance to come aboard for new story arcs. There’s no real reason for this other than the fact that I, personally, would love to help new artists get their feet wet, or more experienced artists a chance to explore something new for a short burst of their time. The first arc is called Attack of the Octopod and the second arc is Beast of Blackwater. More webcomics will continue at AquaticHeroes.com.
Sneak Effect Podcast
I started this podcast because it was an idea on my mind for at least 2 years and I wanted it to get out. Sneak Effect features music in the Creative Commons, is about a 20-30 minute show, and is definitely released on an erratic schedule. I spend about 99% of my music-listening time on sites like Jamendo and my car’s CD player always plays CC music, so this is a something I wanted to support somehow and open up to new listeners.
So You Wanna Dig Deeper?
If you’re still interested in reading more about me and my projects then feel free Google me up as “NunoXEI”; I’ve come to accept that with a wandering mind like mine, the term “focusing” is very much a particle of sand in a playground. This is why I’ve started to just PAY people to do some of the work instead of trying to do it all myself. It’s amazing how many more ideas actually get done!
