BREACHSPACE Submissions

CURRENTLY CLOSED

If you are a writer with interest in writing something for the BREACHSPACE Setting, then feel free to submit your query by email. There is never any harm in being proactive about getting published and XEI Publishing will be open-minded when considering any and all submissions during these early stages.

Query Submission

Feel free to submit as many queries as you wish. I will respond to every query I recieve within 30 days. If I do not get back to you in this time please contact me again as there is a chance your query may have been misplaced.

The following list details the query submission guidelines:

  1. Writers with knowledge or high interest in any, or all, of the following are preferred: historical events, folk tales, legends, mythology, old literary works, comicbook concepts, fantasy archetypes, gothic horror literary tradition, steampunk concepts.
  2. Submit a “Query” email summarizing your idea. The Subject Line of your email needs to say “Query for the BREACHSPACE Setting” so that it can be properly filed and responded to.
  3. The Query shouldn’t be longer than 100 words. A max of 250 words is alright but be thorough, NOT SUGGESTIVE. This is the pitch that gets you moving on to the next stage, so be concise and be obvious about the goals of your story.
  4. You need to include the following information in your Query email:
    • Full Name
    • Type of Project Proposed (short story, novella, novel, comic, webcomic, etc)
    • Projected Word Count
    • Pay Rate ($/word)
    • Curriculum Vitae (link to website or let me know through the contact form that you’ll send one once I reply)
    • Send a Query Now!
  5. Once your Query is approved, a contract is drafted which is presented and agreed upon by both parties. There will be an agreed on date for the delivery schedule of the First Draft, Second Draft, and Final Draft.

Technical Specifications

The following list below details the format requirements of the submission once a Query is approved and a Contract drafted and agreed upon:

  1. Authors will be given credit for any published works, make sure you provide the FULL NAME you wish to be credited as.
  2. Submissions can come from anywhere in the world but should conform to US-English standards.
  3. Manuscripts should be in Times New Roman font, size 12, double spaced.
  4. All submissions should be sent electronically in a Word Doc format (other formats are possible but please contact the editor for approval).
  5. Short stories should fall between 3,000 and 6,000 words; more or less needs to be approved by the editor. If you’re proposing a Novela or full-length Novel, this will require a separate discussion between the author and editor.

Creative Requirements

The following list below details the thematic and creative requirements of the submission:

  1. A skeleton of the main plot must be delivered: Introduction, Complication Scenario, Driving Plot, Climax, Complication Resolution, Conclusion.
  2. Creative works will need to go through a “world consistency” review done by the editor. Suggestions can, and will, be made to edit specific references in your submission with the intention of creating a consistency around the lore of the World of Hellmouth. Elements such as race, land, city, politics, religions, organizations, creatures, monsters, etc will be suggested to help the author add world-specific details to their short story based on the tale’s skeleton.
  3. Work should be pre-edited as much as possible but will go through another editorial process after submission. Payments will be made to post-edited manuscripts. This means don’t use “fluff” to increase word count, this will likely get cut and create a bad impression right from the get go.
    1. First Draft does not need to be polished but it does need to be working towards the final goal. Elements may be suggested to alter details to help tie the tale into the World of Hellmouth.
    2. Second Draft will be reviewed more closely and editorial suggestions may be given to help bring the tale to a more final draft.
    3. Final Draft is delivered. Payment is made. Any minor changes hereafter by the editor will not be cleared for approval by the author.
