How could I not make a post about this? The original cover is done by Jack (the King) Kirby. The redo cover with the major Donkey Kong is done by artist, Ante Vukojevich. This was found on a site, Covered Blog, that invites artists to make homage re-do covers of old comics. Awesome stuff–check it out!

The news and concept art for the Epic Mickey video game ran rampant on the interwebs when concept art got leaked. I covered the topic pretty fully over on my personal blog NunoXEI.com where you can catch up on old news if you wish.
A great thing that has come out of the conceptual dystopian look of this alternate Disney world is that artists like “GBlastMan” on DevaintArt create awesome works of art like the one below of Darkwing Duck!

This from the artist’s landing page for this piece:
this is like Darkwing could look like in the twisted Epic Mickey world, i did a no eye effect in the left eye, adn a crashed eye in the other because his eyes are like lightbulbs, also his Gas gun is now a Thinner gun, so one shot and you will be a simple ink stain in the floor, also the souless is because is just an animatronic copy of the real Darkwing Duck
I dug around his gallery and found another concept piece for a Mickey animatronic form:
i was inspired to try the awesome style of the concept art of the game, that Goofy-zombie-robot whatever it is, is just a brilliant piece of art, so i was watching the short “Runaway Brain” and seeing that mindless evil looking Mickey i thought “why can be a animatronic of that mickey but in the Cartoon Wasteland of Epic Mickey? that could be an awesome boss” so i did this in a rush, maybe the prespective isnt the best to show the character but i wanted something like a crawling mad mickey comming from the wall or something like that.

Found this today on the DeviantArt site as a random result in the footer image gallery. Looks like that search knows me all too well! Donkey Kong was the first game that ever destroyed my ability to time manage. I was a kid then so it didn’t matter much. Years later this simple type of game can still captivate me longer than I can afford.
Artist Gary Storkamp renders a beautiful action shot of our hero Mario about to clobber Donkey and save the Princess, “King of Kong“, as a wedding gift for his buddy. In the artist’s notes this piece was never fully rendered. It looks mighty fine to me!
I went digging in his profile hoping I’d see more great Mario art–and looky what I found! A group of Koopa kids and Mario escaping the Sun; Click the links to see the artist notes on his DeviantArt Gallery. What a great day this is:

This comic by H.Caldwell Tanner shows us five alternate careers that could make Mario’s life a little easier. They are pretty funny and can likely be expanded with more humorous scenarios: ice skater, miner, scuba diver, undead hunter… Let’s face it though… ninja probably trumps them all.

Artist Ulises Farinas has taken a critically acclaimed comic book event done by DC with their Green Lantern Universe… and made it MORE epic by portraying the many characters as LEGO! Instant masterpiece to many a fanboy on the interwebs for sure!

I stumbled across some really old ConceptArt.org posts and within them was a treasure of a thread that contained the images below. Pro artist J.P. Targete has re-imagined some Thundercats for a modern re-telling of the childhood fav amongst many of us 30-year-olds. I find Lion-O the most interesting design as Targete brings in some on Lion-O’s royal heritage into the character. It’s worth stating: These are not official designs for anything–they are just FAN ART!… some damn good fan art at that!
These represent exactly the kind of look I expected to see when comics started hitting the shelves again. Instead the stories in those books seemed overtly simple and childish. It’s my opinion that this particular property needs to hit a more adult audience before it targets the kiddies again. Alas, marketing departments always seem to have other ideas on how to enter the market by re-molding old properties with what’s popular in the competition. I can’t express how much the Thundercats deserve to be brought back–but NOT in spandex!

Sometimes there are online Flash games that are better left uplayed once discovered. Why I decided to give Tuper Tario Tros a try is beyond me because I can’t stop playing now. Come one… Tetris WITH Mario… brilliant!
Author comments:
We were playing some Xbox Live games during lunchtime. Guillaume was really excited about “Lucidity” and the idea of playing a “Tetris platform” game… but he finally felt disapointed by the concept.
William came with the idea to mix up Tetris with another well know game: Super Mario Bros.
And here it is: Tuper Tario Tros.!
So, Guillaume decided to create a little Tetris plateformer for fun.
